Personal

Growing up on a farm in northern Iowa, I learned the value of hard work and integrity. From an early age, I learned you could accomplish almost anything if you work hard and treat people with respect. These values continue to shape the person I am today.

One of my favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin: “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” I’ve always felt the more education and information you have, the better decisions you can make. I find this especially true not only in helping people understand their financial situations, but in day-to-day life, as well.

My wife and I are blessed with two daughters. Although I am now outnumbered in my house and my man cave is slightly less manly than I envisioned, I’ve grown to appreciate how much pink and purple I have in my house. I’m also an avid sports fan. One of my favorite books is “Quiet Strength,” written by former NFL coach Tony Dungy. It chronicles his playing and coaching career, and I found that it gave me great perspective on the importance of being a good husband and father while balancing the demands of my career.
