No Better Time to Deploy Your Donor Advised Fund

Foster Group clients include individuals, families, and institutions (businesses and non-profits). Many of the individuals and families we work with prioritize charitable giving – in some cases, to the institutions and non-profits who also benefit from our advice.

One of the best vehicles to help our clients meet their charitable giving goals is a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

Think of a DAF as your “charitable checkbook.” You fund a DAF with appreciated assets or other securities and make grants from that DAF to non-profit organizations you support. You can fund your DAF at any time and grant from it at any time. In addition to the potential tax benefits, a DAF allows you to accumulate funds that could be used for multiple years of giving.

Currently, non-profit organizations are struggling to meet the growing demands of their services and programs. The University of Northern Iowa recently conducted a study on the impact COVID-19 has had on non-profits in Iowa.

If you are interested in learning more about ways you can give in Central Iowa, you can visit the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines’ GIVEdsm site. The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines also has a Disaster Relief Fund that you can support. If you live outside of Central Iowa, seek out your local or regional community foundation for connections and resources.

Having a DAF in place for times like these is important to help meet the needs of your community

The funds are already there, ready to be deployed. And, if you have been accumulating funds in a DAF, we ask that you consider using a portion of these now, because the need is so great.

If you would like more information about creating a DAF or how to deploy a current fund, please contact us.
