More Than Just the Turkey

You can’t talk about a Thanksgiving meal without the mentioning turkey. It’s iconic.

It’s the centerpiece of the table, and for good reason! I don’t care if it’s baked, smoked, or fried; I’ll take all the turkey I can get. But I want more than just the turkey, alone. I want to complement it, with all the side dishes that fill out the rest of my plate. The same is true about your portfolio. You wouldn’t want to feast on turkey alone. You typically want a well-rounded portfolio that includes a mix of stocks, bonds, real estate, and maybe even some alternative investments.

Diversifying your portfolio

Ok humor me. Turkey is like the foundation of your portfolio, maybe akin to a domestic marketwide index fund. Think of the mashed potatoes as your fixed income, usually comforting, solid, and reliable. The green bean casserole adds a crunch, representing growth-oriented investments, such as small caps or value stocks that can add excitement and potential. Cranberry sauce offers a zesty touch, like international equities, providing diversification beyond domestic markets. And, of course, there’s dessert, apple or pumpkin pie, symbolizing those high-risk, high-reward options that have the potential to sweeten the whole meal.

We know our clients are looking for more than just status; they’re looking for purposeful ways to use their wealth.

In both meals and investments, balance is key.

A diversified portfolio can weather market fluctuations just as a well planned Thanksgiving dinner can satisfy almost everyone’s appetite. So, as you prepare for the holiday season, remember that both your plate and your portfolio can benefit from a thoughtful mix of flavors and investments! Give us a call after the holiday, and let’s chat about it.
