Many of us navigate our days with plenty of food to fuel us through the day. However, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey, about 10% of Iowans report “often” or “sometimes” not having enough to eat in the last week.
I recently joined the Food Bank of Iowa Board of Directors, and I have learned a lot about food insecurity, not only in Iowa but throughout the country. Most food pantries in the Des Moines area are giving out more food to qualified people than at any point in their history. The need is huge.
Food insecurity is a year-round problem and not a seasonal occurance.
Often times, we think about giving to those in need or supporting our favorite non-profit organization(s) at Thanksgiving and Christmas or, with end-of-year gifts. This is great and provides a year-end influx of resources to serve the needs of people in our communities. However, the need to feed families, children, adults who live alone, veterans, etc. is ongoing. It’s not a one-time-per-year reality. Outside of large gifts, most non-profits appreciate monthly, recurring support to sustain their operations.
At Foster Group, our vision is to help create lives of meaning and generosity.
Whatever our clients’ fields of interest might be, –– we enjoy having conversations about how to support the charities that are important to them– food insecurity, helping children get out of poverty, the arts, your local library, etc.
So the question, “Are you hungry?” is more about “Are you interested in learning more about how you can become more generous than you already are today?” At Foster Group, Truly Cared ForTM means that our clients’ goals always come first. We’re partners in the pursuit of a meaningful and generous life. We would enjoy having a conversation to help you meet your charitable giving goals. Whether its giving your time, talents and/or resources, we would like to hear your story. Reach out today!
