My Background

Professional

Andrew Farmer assists with the delivery and implementation of financial plans for Foster Group clients. Before joining Foster Group, Andrew spent six years at Veridian Credit Union as part of their indirect lending team, one of the largest volume producers in Iowa. There he handled the outflow of $6–10 million a month. Before leaving Veridian, he assumed responsibilities in that firm’s business development efforts and was active with the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce.

Andrew graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of UNI’s varsity baseball team, playing middle infield for four years.

Personal

For the first 22 years of my life, I was heavily involved with athletics. Those experiences—and the mentors I had—shaped my life in many positive ways. I learned the importance of putting the best interests of the team before my own. The total team approach to Foster Group’s financial planning philosophy is why I feel comfortable here, and why our clients feel confident in working with us.

I thank God every day for my wife and our four children. Playing games, taking part in church activities, and watching the Hawkeyes play are a few of the things we enjoy doing as a family. When I have free time, you’ll find me on the golf course or fishing for the next big catch!

One of my favorite topics to read about and discuss is the art of leadership. I really enjoy this thought from Robert Greenleaf: “Good leaders must first become good servants.” I try to bring this servant leadership mindset to our clients and to my family life at home.
