Jon Evans, CFP^®, AIF^®, is a Lead Advisor on Foster Group’s Business Development Team in the West Des Moines, IA office. Jon is one of the first people you might meet as you consider a relationship with Foster Group. Whether over the phone, or in a meeting at our West Des Moines office, Jon works to understand the issues people are trying to solve and provides education on Foster Group’s custom approaches to helping people achieve their financial life goals. Working with his teammates, Jon then helps identify the advisor we think will be the perfect fit to serve the client for years to come.

Since joining the firm in 2007, Jon has worked in each of the client-facing areas of our practice, giving him a broad perspective and insight.

Jon graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a bachelor’s degree in business finance and marketing. At Bethel, Jon was also a member of the football team and considers the lessons learned on the gridiron an invaluable part of his education and experience.

Personal

Our core aim at Foster Group has been, and always will be, to impact people’s lives for the better. Most often, we accomplish this through the financial planning process, education, and investment advice. But sometimes, impacting lives for the better involves serving our clients in other ways, such as lining up a contractor to fix a leaky roof, organizing a bike ride to raise money for an orphanage in Africa, or helping pick up the pieces after a loved one’s passing. I believe that we are called to step into the lives of our clients to assist, guide, and listen. This is a privilege not taken lightly and one that motivates me every day.

When I’m away from work, my family is my primary focus. My wife and I have four kids who keep us plenty busy and always on our toes. I also enjoy leading worship in our church, tackling projects around our home, and anything in the outdoors.

One of my favorite quotes is from Charles R. Swindoll, “Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.” I’ve learned that we often have two choices in tough situations: We can resent our circumstances and let them define us. Or we can choose to learn from what has happened and positively move forward.
