Personal Thoughts
When we revised the “bios” page on our website, I heard some groans, but I was excited to see what everyone would write, including myself. So, what is it you may want to know about me?
I’ll start by telling you I was married to my biggest fan and best friend, Jenise, in May of 2010. I had so much fun helping plan and execute the intricate details of our wedding and reception that I barely had my suit on in time for pictures! We love urban life and enjoy living in our “all white” condo in downtown Des Moines.
I like to make sure things are visually right. I can usually tell with a glance, or by stepping into a space. You just know if something looks right and if it feels right.
Jenise and I love to have dinner out. Is it the people? The atmosphere? The food? The feeling? Or is it simply the anticipation of all these?
There are times when I just like to sit. To think, to watch, to reflect or to remember.
I enjoy leading change. That means being comfortable with uncertainty, relinquishing control and getting buy-in to something that may not yet be clear.
I like to read. A couple favorites are, “The Effective Executive,” by Peter F. Drucker, and, “Fierce Conversations,” by Susan Scott. I’ve read each a dozen times or more. My copies are full of highlights, underlines, turned-down corners, sticky notes and page tabs. So, the books are full of my scratchings, and the writers’ wisdom.
I like this quote by David Starr Jordan: “The world stands aside to let pass anyone who knows where he is going.” From my experience, this sentence seems to contain a lot of truth. When I’m following, I like the comfort of knowing my leader has a good idea of what’s going on...or at least gives that appearance! When I’m leading, I need to do the same.
I like to serve people well. From the perspective of our clients, it must give them a sense of peace to know we are diligent to educate and improve ourselves so we can provide advice and offer solutions that establish a high probability of success.
So…those are some facts about me.
What is it you may want me to know about you?
