Personal Thoughts

I believe understanding someone’s personal history offers tremendous insight to their character. I was born and raised in the Midwest, in a very loving family. I watched my parents plug into each community where we lived, treating people with honesty, respect, and compassion and making their family, faith, and finances priorities. As they invested in these communities, the communities reciprocated. This resulted in a successful, rewarding “internship” from which I learned.

As part of the 1991 University of Iowa football team which was the Big 10 Champion and went to the Rose Bowl, I learned the importance of a team playing well together. I have also been fortunate to compete and finish over 80 triathlons in my career, including 5 Ironman Triathlons and the 2008 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, all with NO DNF’s (Did Not Finish).

As we discuss the value of money, the importance of meaningful work, education and the challenges in each person’s financial and life plan, I enjoy helping our clients persevere and get to their finish line. Our training plan could cover work issues, retirement and investment planning, cash-flow, estate planning concerns, sibling relationships, paying for college, caring for elderly parents and issues of ethical and moral responsibility. Coupled with a transparent, academically-driven investment philosophy we develop strategies with a high probability of success.

Years of experience and hundreds of client situations influence us, collectively, shaping our philosophy and relationship with our clients. Being “fee-only” consultants, allows us to place the client’s best interests at the center of all our actions.
