Mickie Kinney, Foster Group’s Communications & Marketing Coordinator, is thought of by the people who know her to be a ‘people person.’ She enjoys meeting new people and learning about their life stories. Learning new things and crossing things off her ‘to do’ list are things she looks forward to doing. In her role as Communications & Marketing Coordinator, she gets to do all these things. This includes meeting Foster Group clients, getting to know them through conversation, learning new computer skills and being deeply involved in the planning and execution of many client events.
Mickie has worked in many different fields which has related well to her desire to learn and be challenged. She has held positions in education as well as several professional office environments.
When I’m not in the office, I can often be found doing “grandma duty” with one or all of my grandchildren. I am so fortunate that my children, grandchildren and I all live in the same town. It is a wonderful opportunity to create memories with each one of them.
My husband and I are do-it-yourselfers and we keep busy with projects around the house. We are very active in our church and with our extended families in Iowa and Illinois.
While I do enjoy a good book, I am most likely to be seen with a cookbook or recipe magazine in my hands. In fact, I quite often have a few cookbooks stashed in various locations (my car, by my bedside, etc.) so I can browse them when opportunity arises. I’m always looking for a good recipe to try for potlucks, meetings or family dinners. As you might guess, with grandchildren in my life, I am also an avid reader of children’s literature. At this stage in their lives, anything from the “Little Critter” series is a favorite.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Erma Bombeck, American humorist and author. It reminds me to do my best every day and to make the most of my gifts and talents without reservation or fear of ‘messing up’:
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me."
