Professional Biography
Kay Stearns is an Administrative Assistant in the Human Resource and Accounting areas at Foster Group. Her primary responsibilities involve payroll, compiling numerous internal management reports as well as handling the quarterly billing process for our asset management clients. Her careful, systematic approach, comfort in working independently and respect for confidentiality are valuable qualities in the various roles she plays.
Kay is a graduate of Drake University. During her college years, she was employed in the computer department of a large, local company. In subsequent years, she was employed as an independent proofreader for several local court reporters and also held a Customer Service position with a large corporation. Immediately prior to joining Foster Group, Kay worked in the underwriting department of an insurance company specializing in serving the needs of medical professionals.
Personal Thoughts
Relationships and relating to others are the most satisfying aspects of my life, whether at work or away from work. Surviving cancer certainly refined my perspective on what’s truly important in this life; it always comes back to people. A quote from my favorite book, the Bible, describes the culture here at Foster Group: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” These words are truly not mere lip service at Foster Group. Whether you’re a client, employee, vendor or visitor, everyone is valued and their highest good is the goal. That is a pervasive thread through all that’s done here and I find it very very gratifying to work in a place with that mindset.
I’ve had a very unique vantage point to observe Foster Group from the outside as well working inside the organization. What is visible looking at the organization from an external position is the same as what is actually present internally; a true authenticity, which is an amazing trait to have, whether personally or as an organization.
Some time ago, at a company function, a client asked me why I worked at Foster Group. My answer spilled out immediately: “Because the people here have great integrity, are very capable and professional, and they just care about people, no matter who they are.” That is still the core of who we are to this very day.
